Another marketing strategy that can help you market your small business on a shoestring budget: Create a PR “buzz”
Today, a small business owner can accomplish a lot without hiring a professional PR firm. (I realise that in saying this, I may be cutting my own throat but honesty will be my downfall!)
Contact your local newspaper direct and talk to them about the stories they’re interested in that are related to your line of business. Get a forthcoming features list from your trade magazines. Make friends, obtain contact details, take advice, try out a news release – you can’t expect to become a PR professional overnight but you may expect a trained journalist to spot the germ of a story – if there is one – in your modest scribblings and turn it into a piece of editorial i.e. free advertising for your enterprise.
It may take a few tries to get on to the front page of the Sprogget Makers Monthly but it’ll be worth the effort!
