Leverage your community

Here’s another marketing strategy that can help you market your small business on a shoestring budget.

You don’t have to think big when it comes to your marketing efforts. Think locally. What’s going on in your community? That’s your local business community AND your local non-business community.

Why not sponsor a kids football team or a 5k charity walk/run? These are the sort of events and activities that are largely ignored by bigger sponsors but who most need some support. Buy a team strip emblazoned with your company name… supply the refreshments on the 5k run. Print bookmarks and leave them at the local library.

These things don’t cost much but have a tremendous value, not only to the group receiving the support but also to their families, friends and neighbours. The value of the goodwill and “PR” created by such small gestures is incalculable.

So, get to know your ideal customer and think about how and where they spend their time. Then search for opportunities to get in front of your customer with your marketing message.
